TIBIAL NERVE

  • Tibial nerve
    • COURSE
      • POPLITEAL FOSSA
        • lies superficial to popliteal vessels
        • extending from superior angle to inferior angle
          • crossing popliteal vessels from lateral to medial side
        • BRANCHES
          • muscular branches
          • cutaneous branches
          • articular branches
      • IN THE BACK OF LEG
        • passes deep to tendinous arch of soleus
        • runs downwards and medially to reach
          • posteromedial side of ankle
            • midway between medial malleolus and medial tubercle of calcaneum
          • terminates deep to flexor retinaculum
            • at origin of abductor hallucis
              • dividing in to medial and lateral plantar nerves
      • IN THE FOOT
        • Medial plantar nerve
          • passes between abductor hallucis and flexor digitorum brevis
            • divide further in to branches ( similar to median nerve )
              • cutaneous supply
              • motor supply
        • Lateral plantar nerve ( resembles ulnar nerve )
          • passes laterally and forward until the base of fifth metatarsal bone
            • divides in to superficial and deep branches
