CORPUS CALLOSUM
- CORPUS CALLOSUM
- largest commissure of brain
- connects cerebral cortex of two cerebral hemispheres
- connects all parts of neocortex except lower and anterior parts of temporal lobes
- connected by anterior commissure
- External Features
- floor of longitudinal cerebral fissure
- forms an arched interhemispheric bridge
- connecting medial surfaces of two cerebral hemispheres
- forms roof of lateral ventricles
- lies 4cm behind frontal pole
- 6cm in front of posterior pole
- attachments
- concave inferior aspect of corpus callosum
- attached to
- convex superior aspect of fornix
- by septum pellucidum
- convex superior aspect covered by indusium griseum
- embedded in it are medial and lateral longitudinal striae
- anterior cerebral vessels usually lie on its superior aspect
- covered on each side by cingulate gyrus
- separated by callosal sulcus
- parts
- rostrum
- extends backward and downwards
- to join the lamina terminalis
- forms floor of anterior horn of lateral ventricle
- fibers extend inferiorly to connect
- orbital surface of two frontal lobes
- genu
- thick , curved
- anterior extremity
- 4cm behind frontal pole
- forms
- anterior boundary of anterior horn of lateral ventricle
- fibers
- curve forwards on either side
- in to anterior parts of frontal lobe
- forming a fork like structure called
- forceps minor ( forceps = fork )
- trunk / body (middle part )
- forms the roof of central part of lateral ventricle
- connects
- frontal
- anterior parts of parietal lobe
- splenium ( posterior part )
- overhangs
- thalamic pulvinar
- pineal gland
- tectum
- inferior to splenium
- tela choroidea
- great cerebral vein of galen
- fibers
- connect
- posterior part of parietal lobe
- temporal and occipital
- fork like structure
- forceps major
- TAPETUM
- thin lamina of white fibers
- roof and lateral wall of posterior horn
